In a quest for permanent peace in the troubled border of Cross River and Ebonyi states, the Hon. Commissioner of Internal Security and Border Peace, Hon. Stanley Okoro Emegha, over the weekend, led delegates of security Committee, set up by the Governor, Chief Engr. David Nweze Umahi to Cross River to meditate and put permanent end to the boundary dispute between the Ukele Community of Cross River and Izzi counterpart of Ebonyi state.
The delegation comprising of clergy, community development union leaders, traditional rulers, and youth group, were drawn from both sides of the divide. They agreed to prevail on their youths for a total seize fire pending the final demarcation of the disputed land by the National boundary Commission.
There was also a unanimous agreement that the communual living which had existed between the communities such as inter marriage and schooling should be reinvigorated and children should return to school.
Hon. Emegha reminded them of the existing peace in the area since April, which he said, was because of the effort of the state Governor, Engr David Umahi and his Cross River Counterpart, Ben Ayade, who were determined to total restoration of peace in the area.
He urged them to abide by the agreement reached and that nobody should take up arms against each other no matter the degree of provocation as efforts are on top gear towards the final amicable resolution of the dispute.
Meanwhile, the final peace resolution meeting has been scheduled to hold in Ebonyi State.
