Ebonyi Traditional Elders Council Flay Over Umahi Residence Invasion

 The Ebonyi State members Traditional Elders Council on Wednesday 18 September, 2019 called pres
ident Muhammadu Buhari to beef up the security structure in the country as to save it from unwarranted break of rules of law.

 This is following the recent invasion of the residential home of the state governor,Engr. David Umahi,at Abuja by alleged men of Nigeria Police force who forcefully gained entrance to the building and harass the sitting governor.

 Speaking shortly after closed door meeting in Abakaliki, the state chairman Traditional Rulers Council, and Traditional Ruler of Ezamma autonomous community in Ezza South LGA,Eze Charles Mkpuma, condemned in its entity the action and described it as abuse of democracy.

 The state Chairman who is also vice Chairman Council of traditional rulers South East,Eze Mkpuma stated that the peace habit of the state governor should not be undermine by the alleged armed men.

 He noted that the security structure of the country if not properly beefed up would truncate the peaceful effort of Muhammadu Buhari administration.

 On his part,His Royal Highness,Eze Dominic Alo,jp Orimaogudu 111 of Amagu Ikwo autonomous community in Ikwo LGA, pointed out that the invasion was strange and tragic,but being that the people of south east are marginalized and issues concerning them handle with disdain, noting that their action was unjustifiable being that they learnt that the invasion was linked with the case of the governor going on air as South East governors' forum chairman to ban herdsmen arm carrying while doing their grazing business in the zone.

 The traditional ruler while maintaining optimistic that the country president being a man who gives adequate and sincere attention to security matters would ensure that those behind the mask would be made to face wrath of the law.

 Also, His Royal Highness,Eze Dr.  Cosmas Nnaemeka Agwu, (Enechi Ekuma 4) of Okposi kingdom in Ohaozara LGA, stated that the action was unfortunate and babaric, stressing that the quiteness of concern agency was troublesome.

 The traditional ruler while emphasising on detrabalise nature of the state governors revealed that he has given many important political positions to many non indigenes of the state and advocated that those behind the action be brought to book to serve as detterent to others

Man Convicts 7-Yrs For Pouring Acid On Lawyer In Ebonyi

BY MBAM EJIKE, ABAKALIKI High Court sitting in Abakaliki on weekend convicted Mr. Njoku Shedrack who poured acid/corrosive substance on Chukwunonso Caleb Onwe Esq, a member of Abakaliki Branch of NBA and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine. In delivering the judgment in Charge No. HAB/151C/2020- State v. Njoku Shedrack, the court presided over by Hon. Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on 1/10/2019 without any justification and accordingly convicted him for the offence of Assault Occasioning harm. Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, Assistant Chief State Counsel thanked the court for doing justice in the matter. Similarly, the defendant' s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, Esq.thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
