Aged Mothers Protest Half Naked in Ebonyi Community Over Land Seizure

By Nwogha Ndubuisi Andy, Abakaliki Aged women numbering over fifty today protested half-naked in front of Ebonyi State government, over an alleged confiscation of their mineral deposits. The protesters stormed the front of the Government House at the early hours of Wednesday to register their grievances to the governor, Chief David Umahi. They were carrying placards with the inscriptions: “Gov. Umahi please save us because you are our last hope, we don’t need JEP-JAF(John Nwenyi) in Ndiezoke Igbegu village, John Nwenyi (JEP-JAF) our dear village is not a war zone. “Stop bringing Army and Police to our village, Stop instigating crisis in Ndiezoke Igbegu village,” etc. Meanwhile, the helpless villagers were accusing one John Nwenyi, who is the former monarch of the village but was dethroned by the former governor of Ebonyi state. FG Sets to Disengage 200,000 N-Power Beneficiaries

By our Correspondence  After three years of their recruitment into the N-Power Scheme, the federal government is set to exit 200,000 of the beneficiaries from the programme. Their disengagement will take place between January and February this year, LEADERSHIP has learnt. Some officials of the National Social Investment Office (NSIO) and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, operators of the scheme confirmed the development in Abuja, yesterday. They said that the 200,000 persons to go were among 500,000 young Nigerians recruited by the federal government for the N-Power programme in 2016. It was gathered that they were being dropped from the scheme because there was no budgetary provision for them in the 2020 national budget.
