Ebonyi Council Bosses Launch Zero Tolerance On Environmental Degradation

By Our Correspondent The Coordinators of Effium and Effium South Development Centres, Hon. Agbo Sunday and Hon. Eucharia Ogwale respectively have declared zero tolerance on environmental degradation in Effium autonomous community in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State. The duo, who made the declaration during on the spot general assessment of the environment, expressed dissatisfaction with the manner at which residents of the area handle their environment. Speaking during the exercise, the Coordinator of Effium Development Center, Agbo Sunday, who reiterated that a healthy being was a function of a healthy environment, warned that it would not be business as usual. He explained that the two development centres coordinators were partnering to ensure that the environment was given a facelift, adding that the outcome of the assessment would redirect them on the next steps to take to ensure a clean environment. Governor David Umahi said the net became necessary as it is the most cost effective way of malaria elimination. Court Remands Man, Others on Alleged Kidnap, Conspiracy

By Nwogha Ndubuisi Andy, Abakaliki Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abakaliki, on Wednesday 6 November, 2019 remanded in custody, a 25-year-old man, one Anthony Chinedu and eight other persons for their alleged involvement in kidnapping, in the state. It was gathered that the accused persons and others now at large committed the offences on Monday, October 28, 2019, at Ukwuagba-Ngbo community in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state. The suspects and their accomplices were alleged to have kidnapped a 65-year-old man, one Ogbonna Irem Elechi, and allegedly collected from  him, the sum of N30,000, as a ramson. Ebonyi,21 Other States Have Not Recruited Teachers In 10 Years —NUT

By our Correspondence The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) have revealed that twenty-two states have not recruited teachers for primary or secondary schools in the last five to ten years. NUT National President, Muhammed Idris revealed this in a statement issued on Monday. According to Mr. Idris, some states last recruited primary and secondary school teachers in 2002. Idris said that while Taraba, Niger, Adamawa, Ondo, Ogun and Delta states last held teachers recruitments in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, teacher recruitment has not taken place for over five years in Benue (2008), for primary and secondary; Nasarawa (2010), primary school; Bayelsa (2012); Ebonyi (2012); Rivers (2013), primary and secondary and Oyo (2014).
