2 Arraigned for stealing cigarettes, noodles in Abakaliki

By our Correspondence The police in Ebonyi State have arraigned Chikwado Mbam and Chinedu Agbo, both 20 years old, for conspiracy, breaking into a store and stealing cartons of noodles and a packet of cigarettes, among others. They were arraigned on Monday before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court on five counts bordering on conspiracy, store-breaking, felony and stealing. The police prosecutor, Inspector Mbam Chinedu, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences in the Umuigwe Nkaliki community, Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state, on September 15, 2019. The suspects, it was gathered, broke into a shop belonging to one Oluchi Ebonyi and allegedly stole some items and cash from the shop. They were also said to have broken into the shop of one Chikaodiri Nwokpoku and made away with two iTel phones, a Nokia phone, one packet of cigarette and a carton of noodle, among others. Social investment fund not mismanaged —FG

Our Correspondence, Abuja The National Social Investment Office on Wednesday said that the social intervention funds being managed by it had not been mismanaged as being speculated in some quarters. It said since 2016 when the scheme commenced, the funding and disbursement had always been done by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. In a statement issued in Abuja, by the Communications Manager, Justice Bibiye, the NSIO said the Office of the Vice President is not involved in the financial transactions or the disbursement of funds for the programme. It said the Steering Committee for the NSIO, chaired by the Vice President, supervises the implementation of the SIPs. The Steering Committee comprises nine ministers, including that of Finance; Education; Health; Agriculture, Trade and Investment, Youth and Sports, Women Affairs; Labour and Productivity; Information; with the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as the Secretariat. --Fines petitioner 300,000 Compensation By Nwogha Ndubuisi Andy Election Tribunal sitting in Abakaliki has on Friday, September 20, 2019 declared member representing Abakaliki South, in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Barr. Joseph Ununu, winner of the March 9, House of Assembly election.  Delivering the judgement in suit no. Ept /EB/HOA /01/2019, between Hon. Joseph Ununu, INEC and the flagbearer under the platform of All Progressive Congress Obinna Udenwe, Justice Sika Aprioku, struck out the case for failure of the petitioner to prove his case on the balance of probability.  He fined the petitioner, Obinna Udenwe N150,000 each as compensation to the Ist and 2nd respondents.  Obinna Udenwe had earlier dragged Ununu to court after the house of assembly election conducted on March 9, 2019.  In his petition, he prayed court to nullify or set aside the election which saw Ununu as the winner, pleading that INEC should withdraw the certificate of return issu

By Nwogha Ndubuisi Andy In what appeared like moon light tale, just few months ago, the media was agog over the news of one Mary Emmanuel Akpanke, who was allegedly hypnotized and her four children were stolen by child traffickers at Tycoon Hotels, Abakaliki.  Mary lost four of her children identified as Marvelous, Mercy, Promise and Peace to traffickers in Ebonyi State at early morning of Saturday May 7, 2019, on their way to Cross River State.  Current News24 gathered that out of the four children kidnapped, one of the stolen children has been killed by the traffickers and his remains thrown into the bush in Imo State.  Speaking with the Father of the children, Mr. Akpanke, he revealed that in the course of finding the missing children only two, Marvelous and Mercy were recovered and one of the triplets, identified as Promise has been killed by the traffickers for allegedly being sick.   He further disclosed that the whereabouts of the last one, Peace Akpa

The body arrived in a wooden casket from Singapore where Mugabe passed away on September 6. Woman Stabs Husband to Death for Refusing to Release Money for Daughter's Birthday

The Lagos state police command has arrested 23-year-old Stella Peters for stabbing her husband, Haruna Bala, to death today Tuesday September 17th. A statement released by the spokesperson of the police command, Bala Elkana, says the couple who were not legally married, lived together at No 2 Tejuosho Avenue, Surulere lagos, for three years and have a Baby who just turned one. An argument ensued between them which turned violent and the woman used a kitchen knife to stab the man in the back which led to his death. Bala says the woman accused the man of refusing to release money for their daughter’s birthday party. Homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba have taken over the investigation. The suspect confessed to the commission of the Crime.
