Ohaneze Youth Kicks Against Marginalization

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohaneze Youth Council, has called on South East Governors, State and National assembly members to kick against laws that will further marginalize the rights and privileges of Igbos even as they support the people's course.



The council made the call at her recent convention held in Abakaliki on Saturday 21 September, 2019 to elect and inaugurate leaders of Ebonyi state chapter.

Speaking at the event which had in attendance participants from all the Local Government areas of Ebonyi State, National president of the organization, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka noted that Igbo land has what it takes to sustain itself, but most policies of states and Federal government acts as stumbling block to the development of the region.

The national president lamented that the people's indigenous language,Igbo is derailing every day because of the poor attention and value given to the third most speaking dialect in the country.


He further emphasized the need for federal government to review the implementation of tradermoni, agriculture loans and other policies meant to reduce poverty among the people, but where not effectively implemented in the zone.

The group called for a halt in the proposed bills to allow federal government to take ownership of water ways and lands in southeast, saying that the bill is anti Igbo.

Ohaneze Youth Council demanded for review of security apparatus in southeast and for more allocation to agriculture and education in states budgets in the zone.

Other demands made by OYC includes immediate establishment of funtional industries and formulation of people oriented policies in Southeast; and for States in the zone to make Igbo language compulsory in schools, and should be a prerequisite for admission and employment in the Igbo land.

Ohaneze Youth Council also emphasized the need for unity among Igbo people at all levels to encourage collective development and growth of the zone.

Chairman of the convention, Mazi Chisoro Godsent and the national vice president of OYC, Miss Oluchi Nnenna charged all youths of Igbo land especially members of Ohaneze Youth Council in Ebonyi state to spread the message of Unity, love and collective efforts in fighting the course of Igbo nation who are seen as strangers in their own land.


In Ebonyi State Chapter of OYC election conducted at the Convention, Mr. Sabastine Obyia from Izzi Local Government Area emerged as State chairman, Mr. Pius Inya was elected State Secretary, Juliet Nwinyinya Treasurer, Rev. Freeman Ede as organizing secretary and John Chukwu as financial secretary. Also elected are Nwachukwu James as Publicity Secretary and Chidiebere Colins as legal adviser.

Other state officers, Senatorial Zones and Local Government Area Executives were also elected at the convention.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman of OYC in Ebonyi state, Comrade Friday Sabastine Obia Promised to carry all members along, take the message of mission and vision of OYC to the grass roots and would ensure full implementation of the national president’s seven points agenda in the state.

In an interview, Comrade Abraham Nwoshibe Uchenna, who stepped down for Comr. Obiya stated that having seen that the vision of the elected Chairman was in line with his own decided to support him and pledged unalloyed support to enable the Council achieve it's objectives in the state.

The highlight of the convention was the inauguration of the new state executive and good will messages.
