Inspector General of Police, Mr. Adamu Muhammed has been urged to set up a powerful team to investigate alleged Nigeria Police men invasion of the Abuja residence of Ebonyi State Governor Engr.David Umahi.
In a release made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, the state capital, the Special Assistant to the governor on Inter-Party Advisory Council and Labour matters, who is also IPAC, state chapter chairman ,Hon.Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor described the act as dastardly and threat to life.
Hon. Adibe who also doubled as the South East Inter Party Advisory Council Vice Chairman pointed out that the attack coming on the eve of the south east governor's forum meeting held in Enugu State which governor Umahi is the chairman and had recommended the ban on arm carrying by herders and every other person speaks volume and should be commended and not to be attacked by whosever, noting that the state governor remains the most friendly governor who gives equal opportunity for all irrespective of tribe or religion in the country.
It reads in part: "this attack coming on the eve of the South East governor's meeting held at Enugu which recommended ban of all manner of persons from moving around with arms, ak47 and other dangerous weapons speaks volume.
We, members of IPAC Ebonyi State chapter condemn the dastardly act, though no substantial claimed has been made on those behind such ill character, but we are saying that Inspector General of Police should set up a panel to investigate the harrasment of the sitting governor.
The governor is a detribalised individual who accommodates every tribes which is proveable with numbers of non Ebonyians in his cabinet even the fulanis who occupy relevant positions.
" He has always sponsor both Christian and Muslim pilgrimage to the holy land. To us, the south east governors did not make any new law, these laws have been in existence; it is only it's implementation that they are just saying it should be binding on all manner of persons in the region".
The group further lauded the state governor and Federal Ministry of Aviation for giving speedily nod to the state airport project being crusade by Umahi led administration.
"IPAC specially satisfied with the position of the federal ministry as regards the immediate kick-off of the project as that has confirmed the dedication and commitment of the ministry for a better economic environment for the Nigerian citizenry especially that of Ndi-Ebonyi.
"While we are sincerely grateful to the ministry for unflinching support so far declared,The over fifty operating political party's in the state housed by IPAC hails the visible cum laudable developmental strides of Governor David Umahi which in a short period has given the state a new face in Nigeria societal configuration thereby putting the state socioeconomic growth in a positive index continuously.
"As opposition party's nothing has become serious to oppose rather to support for indeed Ebonyi state is on the rise.
Similarly, The permanent Secretary ministry of Health,Dr.Chris Achi, described the attack as threat to democracy stating that if nothing was done to bring to book those who invaded the governor's residence that such will be inimical to growth of democracy in the country.
While strongly condemned the attack on the sitting governor said that no Nigerian deserved to be harrassed nor unlawfully gained access into the person's residence by men who ought to be protecting armless individuals and called Mr.president, Muhammadu Buhari to give order for the immediate investigation of the invasion.
Also, Executive Chairman Ezza South LGA,Hon. Sunday Ogodo, while responding on the recommendation made by the governors, said the decision of the south east governors are within the ambit of the law, as such, those who were behind the act should be fished out to serve as detterent to others.
The Ikwo Local Government Council Chairman counterpart, Elder Nnabuochie John, blamed poor handling of the alleged invasion on lack of ruler of law in the country.
Hon.John quired what could be the reason behind the silence of the police Boss over the unlawful action of the uniform men and advised the judiciary to rise up to their calling while charging men of Nigeria Police Force not to allow those who are power drunk to sink the country into the mud by using them to destabilize the system.
He said the action though not proved by the police Boss, but with what happened during the recently held election proved that there was every sense that the invasion was politically motivated as mobile men was allegedly exchanged their position for money.
The Council Chairman while advocating for local vigilantes called for quick intervention and persecution of those involved in the crime.
