SHUN CULTISM...STUDENTS ADVISED

Abakaliki-In tanderm with Ebonyi State government determination to end cultism and other social vices,students of St. Theresa Secondary School,Okpaugwu on Wednesday morning 9th October,2019 were advised to avoid all ungodly associations capable of ruining their lives and careers.

 This was made known by Hon Saint Nchekwube Anakor,Special Adviser to the governor on Internal Security and Utility during his visit to the school while disclosing that the campaign was geared at imparting good moral standard into the children.

 He added that the event was an offshoot of Governor Umahi's decision in making the entire state cultism free and as a result charged the students not to allow themselves to be influenced negatively as such action could not only jeopardize their careers but also subject their parents to humiliation.

 According to him"Don't allow people to choose you as their friend rather you are the ones to choose your friends and any environment where you see cultists occupying,know fully that such premises is not for you,simply avoid them"he said

 He disclosed that the people indulging in the illegal association are those who are overwhelmed with inferiority complex while adding that the group is usually characterized with some obnoxious acts which include arm robbery,kidnapping,rape among others and thereby urged them to concentrate on their educational pursuit to enable them make both their parents and the state proud in future.

 He said that Engr David Umahi whom he described as the best governor in the Federation ,having,seen that those students are the future leaders,then deemed it necessary to interact with them through his office on the need to avoid unpleasant acts generally.

 The School Prefect,Master Odo Emmanuel Chibuzor appreciated the the governor over the initiative and thanked Hon Nchekwube and his team while encouraging his fellow students to adhere strictly to the advice given to them.

He further pointed out that the school,being a missionary institution, according to him is absolutely free from cult related issues.

Man Convicts 7-Yrs For Pouring Acid On Lawyer In Ebonyi

BY MBAM EJIKE, ABAKALIKI High Court sitting in Abakaliki on weekend convicted Mr. Njoku Shedrack who poured acid/corrosive substance on Chukwunonso Caleb Onwe Esq, a member of Abakaliki Branch of NBA and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine. In delivering the judgment in Charge No. HAB/151C/2020- State v. Njoku Shedrack, the court presided over by Hon. Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on 1/10/2019 without any justification and accordingly convicted him for the offence of Assault Occasioning harm. Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, Assistant Chief State Counsel thanked the court for doing justice in the matter. Similarly, the defendant' s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, Esq.thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
