Encomiums Attend Family Succour Launch


...As Beneficiaries Call for Continuation of Program.

Abakaliki-BENEFICIARIES OF the Family Succour and Upliftment Foundation, FSUF - a pet program of the Wife of the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs Rachel Umahi has called for the uninterrupted continuation of the program.

The beneficiaries said because of its far reaching importance, it should be given a legislative backing by getting it institutionalised.
They spoke during the launch of the Foundation recently in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

One Mrs. Nkechi Usulor - a widow and a beneficiary said a Ministry should be created to house the Foundation and guard against its 2023 terminal stage.


Recall that upon the assumption of office four years ago, Chief Rachel Umahi initiated the program billed to drag innumerable women out of socio-economic obscurity.
Many vagina viscose fistula patients has been repaired and female genital mutilation -an obnoxious practices, outlawed by the Foundation.

Seduced by the Foundation's philosophy, global donor agencies - UNICEF and others have supported the program describing it as "laudable".

Man Convicts 7-Yrs For Pouring Acid On Lawyer In Ebonyi

BY MBAM EJIKE, ABAKALIKI High Court sitting in Abakaliki on weekend convicted Mr. Njoku Shedrack who poured acid/corrosive substance on Chukwunonso Caleb Onwe Esq, a member of Abakaliki Branch of NBA and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine. In delivering the judgment in Charge No. HAB/151C/2020- State v. Njoku Shedrack, the court presided over by Hon. Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on 1/10/2019 without any justification and accordingly convicted him for the offence of Assault Occasioning harm. Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, Assistant Chief State Counsel thanked the court for doing justice in the matter. Similarly, the defendant' s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, Esq.thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
