The speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru has been conferred with the title of 'Dike Eji Eje Mba 1' of St Joseph Catholic Church, Igbeagu, Izzi LGA, even as late Msgr Jerome Anaeto was given posthummous award as Nnukwu Mmuonu. The bishop gave the awards yesterday on the occasion of his grand reception to St Joseph, Ndigwe-Egede, Igbeagu Community as a mark of recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development and progress of the church.
Reacting to the development, Mr Nkwuda Monday who represented the speaker on the occasion described the award as a round peg in a round hole, just as he emphasized that Mr speaker has really made enormous contributions to the church, starting from his own parish. '' It is therefore no surprise thing that the award is coming at a time like this'', he added. He further pleaded with the Hon. Speaker to do more for the church, not only in Izhiland but Ebonyi as a whole. On his part, one of the awardees and president of Unity Friends Club, Chief Dan Uzuka described the award as a call to work harder for the progress of the church. Mr Uzuka who was conferred with the title of 'Ome ree 1 of St Joseph', thanked the bishop, His Lordship Rev Fr (Dr) Nworie Peter Chukwu, Engr Mayor Okoro Monday, friends from Unity Friends Club and family for coming around to support him, promising to always support the work of the church. The visibly highly elated President of Unity Friends Club, Mr Uzuka was full of appreciation as he watched his club members throng around him in solidarity during the confernment of the award. Late Msgr Jerome Okechukwu Anaeto was also not left out as he was given a posthummous award of ' Nnukwu Mmonwu' of St Joseph Catholic church. Msgr Jerome Anaeto was the parish priest of St Mulumba Catholic Church, Azuiyiokwu and one of the great pillars of Catholic church in Abakaliki diocese. Receiving the award as ' Ochiru Ozua 1' of St Joseph, Rev Fr Donatus Oluwachukwu expressed happiness over the Bishop's acceptance that the Station forthwith be recognized as a new parish under Abakaliki diocese even as construction of Father's house was still on-going. He charged the parishioners to continue to work with faith, love and unity for the progress of the church. Others who also received award were: Hon. Joseph Ununu (Ebube dike 1 of St Joseph); Prof Mrs Adeline Idike ( Nnedu oha ree of St Joseph); Rev Fr Dr Abraham Nwali (Nna Umu Ogbenye of St Joseph); Hon.
