Ebonyi:IPAC Faults EBSIEC Nominee Charge


--Vows to Boycott LG Election if fee not removed

The Ebonyi State Chapter Inter Party Advisory Council Chairman,IPAC, led by Nwogba Morgan Nnaemeka on Wednesday 12 February,2020 faulted the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission nomination form fee charge of over one million naira.

Addressing newsmen in his Abakaliki office, the State Chairman stated  that the State Electoral Commission nomination form charge was unacceptable to the opposition parties as they have written to the body awaiting their response of cancellation of the fee or be forced to boycott the forth coming Local Government Area election.

He called opposition parties members to remain calm as there would be level playing ground for them.

The state chairman appealed to Ebonyi State government to intervened to their request in ensuring the said amount of one million naira for chairmanship and two hundred thousand naira for councillorship position to be outrightly removed, stressing that they are ready to participate in the exercise if their demands are met.

In a communique made available to Current News 24, it reads in part,
"After concerted deliberations at it's general meeting held at it's Secretariat, on Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission pronouncement on the nomination fee from political parties in respect of their candidates for the 2020 Local Government council election in the state, and pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, the Inter party Advisory Council (IPAC), Ebonyi State,has resolved as follows:"That the nomination fees charged by EBSIEC on which are One Million (1,000,000 naira) for councillorship position and Two hundred Thousand (200,000 naira) for Councillorship position respectively are outrageous and therefore should be removed.

"That the opposition political parties are poised to boycott the elections if the fees are not cancelled entirely".

"That there should be a level playing ground for all political parties in Ebonyi State to participate in the elections".

"That the Ebonyi State government should intervene to ensure the said amount is outrightly removed.

"And lastly,that the IPAC in Ebonyi State is desirous,willing and ready to participate in the local Government council elections,if above demands are met and we assured to continue to be law abiding.

Responding on Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, deregistration of some political parties, the IPAC and United Patriots Party State Chairman hinted that the National electoral body acted on error as according to him, the report is a rumour considering the fact that some leaders of coalition of political parties are in court and they have the right to decide their fate.

He called opposition parties leaders in the state not to be frightened with the report as the court has the final say on the rumour of deregistration.
