Pioneer majority Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Former Member that represented Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Hon. Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru is dead.
Born to the family of Chief Michael and Mrs. Christiana Okwuru in the pastoral community of Amudo in the then Ezzikwo Division (now Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State), the death of Tobias Okwuru is a big blow to Ezza Nation.
Aliezza, as he is called, was a rising star in Ebonyi Politics. He died at the age of 59.
The former parliamentarian had his primary and post-primary education at St. Paul’s primary (now Community Central School, Amudo) and Boys’ Secondary School, Ezzamgbo, respectively. Later on, he bagged a second-class degree in Government/ Public Administration from Imo State University, Owerri.
He was Ward Secretary Social Democratic Party, SDP, Amudo/Okoffia ward 1991 – 1993; Councillor, Amudo/ Okoffia ward between 1996 and 1997; Supervisor for Works, Ezza South Local Government Area in 1997; State Administrative Secretary, Democratic Party of Nigeria (DPN), Ebonyi State, 1998; Pioneer State Auditor, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ebonyi State, 1998 -1999; Pioneer Chief Whip of Ebonyi State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003; Pioneer Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007; Ebonyi State Commissioner for Public Utilities from 2009 to 2010; and member representing Ikwo/ Ezza South Federal Constituency in the 7th House of Representatives from 2011 till 2015.
Okwuru is married to the love of his life, Lady Eucharia Nworie Okwuru (LSM). The union is blessed with children.
He was said to have battled with over-weight related ailment.
The former commissioner for information and state orientation, Dr. Chike Onwe who confirmed Okwuru’s demise described it as “painful”.
He said that Okwuru died around 9:30am on February 28 at Niger Foundation Hospital Enugu but his corpse has been transferred to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions and Colleges, Hon. Anayo Edwin Nwonu has described the death of his former colleague and brother as a black Friday to him and Ezza people.
In a motion laden voice, the Lawmaker said the death of Aliezza was a huge shock, unbelievable and big blow.
Nwonu said the demise was an irreparable loss at a critical moment when his Goodwill, experience, joviality and national relevance are mostly needed.
He noted that Okwuru was one of the dearest sons of Ezza Nation whose impacts have earned him a unique acceptance and love from his people.
The Lawmaker therefore commierated with the family, relatives, people of Ezza South, Ezza Nation and indeed Ebonyi State for the irreparable loss.
He further prayed for the repose of his soul.
