Party Primaries: Group protests, accuses Anyim of plan to destroy PDP in Ebonyi

By Alo David, Abakaliki Concern political pressure group, Ebonyi Mandate, have raised alarm calling on national and state leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rescue the party from imminent collapse in Ebonyi State.
They urged the party leaders in the State to bury their hatchets, conduct primaries and move the party forward. A statement signed by the group’s leader, Mr. Uzor’oma Gabriel N. reads: “The unnecessary crisis rocking PDP Ebonyi state because of power play has now reached a point of no return as today seems like their last chance to hold any primary election, as per notices sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for that purpose. Dr Iyorchia Ayu: “Since the holding of the three Man Ward Adhoc delegates election on of May 7, 2022 wherein the former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius and his loyalists abstained and upon the decision that only these three man delegates will eventually vote – Senator Anyim, Obinna Ogba, National Secretary, the National Chairman and the National Organizing Secretary have vowed that if Obinna Ogba is not going to win the Gubernatorial ticket, there should be no primary elections in Ebonyi State. “It was like a rumour, but now becoming a reality as at today Thursday, May26 2022, Ebonyi State have not held any primary election for the various offices, while other States have concluded the exercise.
Senator Anyim Pius Anyim: “These National officers have come to finally hold the burial ceremony of the PDP as the entire South Eastern States are in crisis directly linked to the mentioned National officers as being misled by Samuel Anyanwu – the National Secretary. "There is no doubt that Sen. Anyim who pretends to be a presidential aspirant, is a stooge of Gov. Umahi and by holding on to their control of these National officers, will ensure that Umahi gets a clear coast ahead of the 2023 election to install his preferred candidate as governor in Ebonyi State – their interest is monthly stipends. "Anyim has been crying across the country that he is about to be retired in politics if the primaries hold. This is the lot of PDP today in Ebony State, a party on a part to self destruction. "Well, we the observers and watchers of political events in Ebonyi State will continue to observe and watch as the only hope we had is thrown to the dogs for lunch. We know those to hold accountable” Uzor’oma stated

Man Convicts 7-Yrs For Pouring Acid On Lawyer In Ebonyi

BY MBAM EJIKE, ABAKALIKI High Court sitting in Abakaliki on weekend convicted Mr. Njoku Shedrack who poured acid/corrosive substance on Chukwunonso Caleb Onwe Esq, a member of Abakaliki Branch of NBA and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine. In delivering the judgment in Charge No. HAB/151C/2020- State v. Njoku Shedrack, the court presided over by Hon. Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on 1/10/2019 without any justification and accordingly convicted him for the offence of Assault Occasioning harm. Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, Assistant Chief State Counsel thanked the court for doing justice in the matter. Similarly, the defendant' s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, Esq.thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
