Ebonyi Guber Race: Nwonu Promises People Breath of Fresh Air

The member representing Ezza North/Ishielu Federal constituency in the Lower Chamber of National Assembly, Hon (Chief) Anayo Edwin Nwonu has promised to better the lots of Ebonyi people if elected. The lawmaker with his campaign slogan “breath of fresh Air” (ikuku ndu to rescue Ebonyians) made this known to the public on Saturday 9th April, 2022 at the occasion of the formal opening of his governorship campaign office in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. Hon. Anayo maintained that his aspiration to become the next governor of Ebonyi State is to change the ugly situation of the people and provide them with hope for a living adding that the multiple taxation, lack of reasonable employment, empowerment and welfare of the workers characterized with the present administration had made the people uncomfortable. He stressed that before now people with high ovation had prayed earnestly to God so that the current debilitating leadership in the state could be changed and as a result brought him as the most suitable candidate for the gubernatorial race. He also pointed out that he had been solving people’s problem time without numbers and as well cited an incident where he was called and intimated about a young man who was taking his pregnant wife on a motorcycle to the hospital of a distance of over 25 kilometers, on the couple's way to the hospital, mistakenly the man lost control and nearly lost the unborn baby. According to him, this could not have happened, if there is nearby health facility that functions very well and on this note, the aspirant vowed to ensure that such nightmarish experience could not be noticed in his administration as he would not only revitalize all the health institutions but also site more. He selected eight point Agenda as his priority which include: Good governance to run open, accessible and accountable government at the state and LGA system. Granting of free education from primary to secondary school levels. Providing healthcare to every Ebonyian. Creation of job opportunities to Ebonyians Giving support to the aged old men and women, the disable among others. He shall turn agriculture into a business venture and take it from peasantry into large scale farming. The administration shall set up industrial zones in each of the three geo-political zones to create job opportunities. He would adopt every necessary measure to restore peace across the state. Hon. Anayo further disclosed that his venturing into politics today is a clear indication that he has a burning desire to make indeblibe marks in the society and touch lives positively in such manner that Ebonyians can testify. Meanwhile, Chief Chinedu Anyigor, strong supporter of the aspiration explained that in view of the catalogue of Hon. Nwonu’s achievements that the man had already poised to better the lives of the people stating that the leader deserves to become the next governeor of Ebonyi State. He added that the vision of Hon. Anayo Edwin had revealed that the people of Ebonyi State are seriously yeaning for someone of his kind in the sense that he had been touching lives positively without discrimination. In addition Hon. Petikin Chukwuemeka Alo described Hon. Nwonu as one in a million, a great manager of resources and exponent of democracy who had done exceptional work in his constituency mostly in the area of job opportunity, human empowerment and infrastructure.

Man Convicts 7-Yrs For Pouring Acid On Lawyer In Ebonyi

BY MBAM EJIKE, ABAKALIKI High Court sitting in Abakaliki on weekend convicted Mr. Njoku Shedrack who poured acid/corrosive substance on Chukwunonso Caleb Onwe Esq, a member of Abakaliki Branch of NBA and sentenced him to 7 years imprisonment without an option of fine. In delivering the judgment in Charge No. HAB/151C/2020- State v. Njoku Shedrack, the court presided over by Hon. Justice I.P Chima held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that it was the defendant who poured acid on the lawyer on 1/10/2019 without any justification and accordingly convicted him for the offence of Assault Occasioning harm. Reacting to the judgment, the Prosecution counsel J.U Chukwu, Assistant Chief State Counsel thanked the court for doing justice in the matter. Similarly, the defendant' s counsel Odiegwu Ibekwe, Esq.thanked the court for delivering a well considered judgment stating that courts should always ensure that justice is done in all circumstances.
