Man Slaughters Own 2 Children,One other Hospitalized

A middle aged man whose name was given as Chinasa Ogbaga, a native of Egwuagu in Okpuitumo Community, Abakaliki LGA, Ebonyi State yesterday butchered his two children and left one half dead.

Current News gathered that the incident happened on late hour of Saturday night when the alleged killer (Mr.Chinasa) after they returned from farm with his mother was seen sharpening their cuttlass, an action that attracted his younger sister who enquired what he was doing with it but, he told her that he was going for frog hunting.

It was learnt that the mother bluntly disapproved his going out for hunting, but he scolded the mother to stay aside his wish which put fear into her mind and to avoid be beaten by Mr. Chinasa, left the compound to sleep in her elder brother's house due to the suspected unsual behavior.

It was further learnt that, the alleged killer after sharpening the cuttlass targeted when the entire family had gone to the bed and started picking the children one after the other from sleep to the nearby farm where he slides their throat and dismembered some parts of their bodies.

Our reporter who visited the scene further learnt that the alleged killer slaughtered his two children Chikamso Ogbaga, a male(6years) and Chizaram Ogbaga, a female (4years) at different positions in the farm, Whereas,left one of his child, Emmanuel Mgbada,a male,2years half dead who was lucky enough to have been saved and rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki,AE-FETHA where we confirmed that he is responding to treatment.

Speaking with Mr. Emmanuel Nwambam,an Uncle to the alleged killer, narrated that the family received the news with shock but quickly rushed to the compound on that Monday night where they met the rescued child on his pool of blood but quickly rushed him to the hospital, unknown to them that he had slaughtered two others like chicken at the close by bush.

According to him, Mr.Chinasa, a vulcanizer operator who based in Onitsha, Anambra State had returned home few days back and went to the farm that fateful day with his mother, after their return, sharpened the cuttlass used for the barbaric act but unknown to the family the motive behind the action as he has been living peacefully with his children.

He said, after committing the crime, met a vigilante officer in the village who interrogated him why he was moving with Cutlass at the late hour of the night but he quarrelled the man and rushed to the home of one of their villagers who is a police officer (name withheld by us) and begged him to shot him dead that he had committed abomination and doesn't deserve to live again, but the police officer ordered him to sit on the ground where he convinced him to confess his crime and he told him how he had matcheted his son badly, though, never disclosed to him that two were already dead as they were discovered next morning after the alleged killer had been bundled and handed over to the Nigeria Police.

He described the action of Mr. Chinasa as abomination to the land, stating that even when he was seen sharpening cuttlass that nobody suspected that he was nursing such heartless act, describing the action as inhumane and called government to punish him according to the law.

Speaking with the bereaved mother, Mrs.Ogbaga who addressed us amidst tear hinted that Mr.Chinasa divorced his wife early this year and since has been living peacefully with his children whom he registered with one of nearest private school in the community.

According to the mother, since the alleged killer divorced his wife things have not be the same again, as he visits home regularly to see his three children who lived in the village with her.

She told our reporter that Mr. Chinasa was confirmed to be recently possessed of Ogbanje spirit for which she suspected caused his abnormal behaviour, stating that she left the compound for her brother's house that night so as to avoid being beaten should she tried stopping him from going for the hunting.

The bereaved mother said that her son despite his menial handiwork, treats the victim children with love and care as he always provide for them even while he was away, revealing that his actions was not ordinary. 

However, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relation Officer,Loveth Odah, confirmed that the Deputy Police Officer,Ekumenyi Division reported the incident to the state headquarters and that the deceased bodies have been deposited at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital AE-FETHA Mortuary, noting that investigation was ongoing to know the root cause of the killing.
